Mr. Kim was assigned as COO of Hanjin Shipping 2004 and then appointed as the company's CEO in late 2008. Mr. Kim is well regarded for his contribution to Hanjin Shipping's future growth as one of the world's top total logistics company. He introduced Process Innovation (PI) through out the company improving work process, management systems, organization, regulations and more.
Mr. Kim first joined the Hanjin Group in 2001 as the CEO of Total Terminals International (TTI), Hanjin Shipping's terminal operator in the U.S. With his success in nurturing the company as one of the most prestigious terminal operators in the West Coast of the U.S., he extended the scope of his knowledge and skills in the world's shipping and logistics industry.
Having worked for Citibank for approximately two decades, in a number of the world's finance and business capitals including Seoul, Hong Kong, Bangkok and New York, Mr. Kim is considered to have extensive knowledge and experience in global business.
Hanjin Shipping is a global carrier, based in Korea, that operates some 60 liner and tramper services transporting over 100 million tons of cargo annually. Its fleet consists of some 200 containerships, bulk carriers, and LNG carriers of 10 million DWT in total. The company is worth KRW 6 trillion (USD 6.5 billion) and earning KRW 6 trillion annually. A member of the Hanjin Group, Hanjin Shipping has several subsidiaries including Keoyang Shipping and Senator Lines GmbH, and affiliates including IT specialist CyberLogitec, and Pyeongtaek Container Terminal Co., Ltd. and last year successfully established Hanjin SM, a vessel management company, as well as Hanjin Pacific, a container terminal operating company.
