Damian Viccars joined the World Shipping Council as its Brussels Representative in 2012 to permanently cooperate with the European Union in the development of its supply chain and cargo security policies.
Damian has been working in Brussels since 2001, developing expertise in EU transport policy and public affairs advocacy toward the EU Instituitions. In this time he has also gained substantial experience working with UN bodies invoved in transport policy.
Prior to joining the WSC, Damian worked for seven years at the International Road Transport Union. As head of Global Social Affairs, he was responsible for road transport employmnet policy and legislation worldwide. He held additional responsibilities for EU fiscal affairs, infrastructure development, road safety and regulatory compliance. Form 2002-2005 he worked for the UK Freight Transport Association as Secretary of the British Shippers Council, gaining experience in maritime affairs including the security initiatives that unfolded after September 11, 2001.
Damian holds a BA Honours degree in War Studies and History from Kings College, University of London and is a native English speaker with a full working knowledge of French.
