Container Weight FAQ
Q: Is our freight forwarder responsible to ensure the VGM documentation follows the container from place of pick up to place of destination?
A: The shipper obligations under this SOLAS amendment are to provide the VGM to the maritime carrier and terminal operator sufficiently in advance to be used in the preparation of the ship stowage plan. It is thereafter the responsibility of the maritime carrier to use the information and pass it on to any transhipment port for use in the ship stowage plan for any subsequent carriage by sea. Thus, there is no continuing obligation on the shipper or any freight forwarder.
