Since September 11, 2001, The World Shipping Council and its member companies have worked closely with governments on developing effective strategies for maritime security improvement.

In support of the on-going work to enhance maritime security, the World Shipping Council has established a Security Advisory Committee comprised of representatives from member companies whose primary role is to analyze, propose and implement measures that consistently improve the security of ports, vessels, cargo and personnel.

The Council shares the recommendations of the Security Advisory Committee with other stakeholders and with policy makers and actively participates on the following advisory councils:

  • U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s National Maritime Security Advisory Committee (NMSAC), which is chaired by Council President, Chris Koch. Read more about DHS and maritime security >>
