The U.S. and E.U. governments generally invite comments from interested or impacted parties when they are developing new regulations or making modifications to existing regulations. The World Shipping Council routinely submits comments regarding regulations that might impact the liner shipping industry. Additionally, the WSC holds Consultative status at the International Martime Organization (IMO) providing industry expertise on maritime safety, security and environmental policy.
Comments are submitted to the federal government department or agency that is issuing the regulation. Such comments are a matter of public record. See this page for a complete listing of all comments submitted by the WSC to the relevant U.S. regulatory body.
Regulations that apply to all countries in the European Union are issued by the European Commission. See this page for formal comments submitted by the WSC to the European Commission.
International rules generally come about through treaty agreements facilitated through the IMO. See this page to review WSC's formal submissions to the Ineternation Maritime Organization (IMO).
Comments submitted by the WSC as well as additional background information, can be found under the relevant subject in the Industry Issues section of the website.
