Decarbonization by 2050

The World Shipping Council advocates for achieving net-zero emissions by 2050 through a globally coordinated regulatory framework, led by the International Maritime Organisation, that sets clear greenhouse gas intensity standards for fuels. The WSC supports market-based mechanisms, like the Green Balance Mechanism, to make green fuels economically viable and encourages policies that consider the full life-cycle emissions of fuels. Regional regulations, such as the EU's FuelEU and ETS, must align with global decarbonisation efforts to avoid fragmentation.

Pathways to Zero Carbon Shipping

Liner shipping are already investing in the development of zero carbon technologies and fuels, and more ideas and projects in the pipeline. But to make these investments, to take the necessary risks, we – and all other maritime actors - need a regulatory framework that addresses the key strategic issues.

Ship Recycling

An important part of a ship’s lifecycle is being recycled once it has been decommissioned from service. We advocate for robust ship recycling standards through international conventions to ensure its safety and sustainability.
